ABSTRACT
This paper presents overview of several compression techniques like linear predictive coding, Wavelet technique and explain their importance for voice over internet protocol. There are some general methods of speech compression and some waveform coding and vocoding algorithms. Compression techniques include some compression standards for voice over internet protocol. This paper also presents the history of speech compression, different uses of speech compression techniques. The compression technique of speech signal has many practical applications. It is used in digital telephony system because there are many users use the same channel at the same time. Another example is in digital voice storage where in a storage device we can store much compressed data than otherwise.
