89C51 Microcontroller Based Microcopter Control System

ABSTRACT
Objective: To keep the safety of the mankind and advancement of the technology remote controlled unmanned arial vehicles are being extensively used these days for surveillance in the hazardous and inaccessible areas. A pc controlled micro-copter control system has been designed and developed, as presented in this paper, to control a toy micro-copter available in the market built around 89C51 microcontroller [1-4]. Software is also developed in Visual BASIC 5.0 to interface the system with PC through the serial interface RS232C.
Experimental Setup: One such online control system for a micro copter has been designed and developed around 89C51 microcontroller as shown in the block diagram of Figure 1. Firstly circuit of the hardware of the remote of the micro copter available in the market has been studied in detail and there after the microcontroller based circuit has been designed and developed along with the program of 89C51 as well as Visual BASIC 6.0 program. The developed system mainly controls the motion in four directions viz. forward, backward, left and right other than start and stop control. The speed of the copter can be also controlled with the help of developed programmable pots..
Software: The program for PC is written in Visual BASIC 5.0 and for 89C51. The VB5.0 program can be modified to control the path of the micro-copter continuously in real time.
