BLUETOOTH INTRODUCTION

It is an open wireless for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and devices personal area networks.
First specification in -July 1999.
Devices can be connected to multiple devices at the same time.
This devices are organised into groups , called “PICONETS”

WHAT IS ZIGBEE?

Zigbee is the name of specification for a suit of high level communication protocol.
A very low cost, low power consumption, two-way wireless communication standards for automation.
Technological standards created for controls and sensor networks.

HISTORY OF ZIGBEE

ZigBee network began to concieved about 1998 when many installer realised that both WiFi and Bluetooth were going to unstable for many application.
In summer of 2003 ,philips semiconductor.a major mesh network supporter ,ceased the investment.
The zigBee alliance announced in october 2004 and had grown to more than 100 member companies ,in 22 counteries.

WHAT DOES ZIGBEE DO?

Designed for wireless controls and sensors
Operates in Personal Area Networks (PAN’s) and device-to-device networks
Connectivity between small packet devices
Control of lights, switches, thermostats, appliances, etc.

CONCLUSION

ZigBee's current focus is to define a general-purpose, inexpensive, self- organizing, mesh network that can be used for industrial control, embedded sensing, medical data collection, smoke and intruder warning, building automation, home automation etc.

What is Zigbee ?

Named after erratic, zig-zagging patterns of bees between the flowers when collecting pollen
A very low cost , low power consumption , two way wireless communications standard for automation , toys & PC peripherals
It defines a set of communication protocols for low-data-rate Short-range wireless networking.
Based on the IEEE 802.15.4 Standard.

Missions of ZigBee

To bring out
Interoperable consumer devices
Open industry specification
Peripheral, control and entertainment devicesLowest cost and lowest power consumption
Anywhere in and around the home

There are three categories of ZigBee devices:

ZigBee Network Coordinator. Smart node that automatically initiates the formation of the network.

ZigBee Router. Another smart node that links groups together and provides multi-hoping for messages. It associates with other routers and end-devices.

ZigBee End Devices. Where the rubber hits the road—sensors, actuators, monitors, switches, dimmers and other controllers.

What Does ZigBee Do?

Operates in Personal Area Networks (PAN’s) and device-to-device networks.
forms a mesh network between nodes
allows the short range of an individual node to be expanded and multiplied, covering a much larger area.

ZIGBEE: A FUTURE REVOLUTION , ADVANTAGE :

The low cost allows the technology to be widely deployed in wireless control and monitoring applications, the low power-usage allows longer life with smaller batteries, and the mesh networking provides high reliability and larger range.

DISADVANTAGE :

What might be perceived as a disadvantage is the low data rate of ZigBee devices, typically less than 100 kbps, depending on the selected frequency band.

CONCLUSION:

ZigBee has been developed to meet the growing demand for capable wireless networking between numerous low-power devices. It offers long life battery extension and proved to be better wireless technology device.
ZigBee demands low data rate applications, and long battery life capability, robust security.
