The MTSO connects calls between mobile units and Public telephone or telecommunication network to the cellular network
The MTSO assign the voice channel to each call, performs handoffs, and the call for billing information
The following steps in a call between two mobile users within an area controlled by a single MTSO
Mobile unit initialization
Mobile originated call
Paging
Call accepted
Ongoing call
Handoff
Mobile unit initialization:
It scans and select the strongest setup control channel used for this system
A handshake takes place between the mobile unit & the
MTSO controlling this cell, through the BS in this cell.
Mobile originated call:
A mobile unit originates a call by sending the number of the called unit on the pre-selected setup channel.
When a channel is in idle, mobile may transmit on the corresponding to BS channel.
Call blocking:
if all the traffic channels assigned to the nearest BS are busy then the mobile unit make a repeated attempts.
Call termination:
when one of the two users hands up, the MTSO is informed and the traffic channels at the two BSs are released.
