High-definition, having enhanced picture quality on a TV or any other display.
High-definition refers to an increase in display or visual resolution such as in:
High-definition video, used in HDTV broadcasting, as well as digital film and computer HD video file formats
High-definition television (HDTV), television formats that have a higher resolution than their contemporary counterparts
High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), all-digital audio/video interface capable of transmitting uncompressed streams
HDV, format for recording high-definition video onto magnetic tape
HD DVD, discontinued optical disc format
Blu-ray Disc, a high resolution video optical disc format
High-definition video
High-definition video or HD video refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, and most commonly involves display resolutions of 1,280×720 pixels (720p) or 1,920×1,080 pixels (1080i/1080p).
Ultra High Definition Television
Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) (or Ultra HDTV, 4320p, and Ultra High Definition Video (UHDV)) is an experimental digital video format, currently proposed under the leadership of NHK. It is 16 times the resolution of HDTV.
Wide Quad High Definition (WQHD) and Quad Full High Definition (QFHD) are not the same resolution as that of UHDTV and represent intermediate resolutions mid-way between those of HDTV and UHDTV.
High-definition television
High-definition television (or HDTV, or just HD) refers to video having resolution substantially higher than traditional television systems (standard-definition TV, or SDTV, or SD). HD has one or two million pixels per frame, roughly five times that of SD. Early HDTV broadcasting used analog techniques, but today HDTV is digitally broadcast using video compression.
