INTELLIGENT CELL CONCEPT AND APPLICATIONS
Conventional microcell approach:
In the cellular industry, system capacity is increased by reducing the cell sizes. But it does not provide intelligence
Interference among the cells is hard to control.
Handoffs may not Have enough time to complete.
The intelligent cell concept:
can be used in macro cells as well as in micro cells .
the cell is able to intelligently monitor where the mobile unit or portable unit is and find a way to deliver confined power to that mobile unit. (power-delivery intelligent cell)
signals coexist comfortably and indestructibly with the interference in the cell.( processing-gain intelligent cell).
Philosophy of Power-Delivery in Intelligent Cells
Conventional approach :Cell site will cover power to the entire cell or sector.
( like a house that turns on all the lights when a person enters it.)
Intelligent cell:
when a mobile unit enters a cell or a sector, the cell site covers only a local area, which follows the mobile unit. (analogous to the light of a small room turning on when a person enters it and not of the entire house)
Intelligent Microcells
Each cell is divided into many zone.
The cell operator knows in which zone the mobile unit is and delivers power to that zone.
When the mobile unit enters in the new zone, the cell operator simply turns on the new zone and turns off the old zone site
The assigned a frequency channel for a call, always remain same with that call within the cell when moving from one zone to another.
