3rd generation technology (3G)

[attachment=29785]

What is 3G and who invented…

3G refers to the third generation of mobile telephony (that is, cellular) technology.
Japan was the first country who took the initiative in 2005 regarding development of 3rd generation technology.
The need of generating 3G is due to incapability of current (pdc) system in mobile communication.

Progress of the Mobile Communication

The first generation cellular mobile communications: (1980 )
Technology: FDMA and Analog Technology.
Systems: AMPS(USA), NMT-900(Sweden), HCMTS(Japan)
Shortages: Only lower Frequency available, same Frequency band Inference, poor Security.
Advantages:convenience for communication

The second generation cellular mobile communications: (1992)
Technology: TDMA, TDMA hybrid FDMA
Systems: DAMPS(USA, IS-54), GSM
Advantages: Higher Frequency available, good Security, higher Capacity, good speech QoS

The third generation 3G: (1996-2005)
High mobile velocity(300-500km/hour); less than 100km/hour(GSM)
To carry out the global wandering tour; District and Country(GSM)
Support Multimedia Service, especially Internet Service, 144kb/s(Outdoor and higher velocity ), 384kb/s(from Outdoor to indoor, lower velocity), 2Mb/s(indoor); Speech of QoS and other services 4-100-200kbs/s(GSM, lower velocity)

Some key features

Key Features
Download at up to 7.2Mbps in some areas - Mobile Broadband compares to normal broadband*
No telephone landline or ADSL micro filters required for service activation
Mobile Broadband uses wireless technology so there are no cables to keep tidy
"Mobile" Internet connection - access the Internet from your laptop while you are out of your house*
For those who want to enjoy mobile connectivity without any long-term commitment, PAYG Mobile Broadband provides a good option

Unimaginable internet access..

Enjoy surfing speed up to 21.1 mbps
Perfect for business men who need internet for regular business meetings.
For those who doesn’t want to be tied down by a fixed line internet connection and wants internet access wherever they are at any time of the day.
Pay bills online, book ticket for movies at your home.

Difference b/w wi-fi and 3G…

Wi-Fi is a pretty fast technology, with a maximum speed of 10Mbps for the type 802.11b network. So why can't phones use the faster Wi-Fi instead of 3G? Wi-Fi was designed to replace cables between computers and network hubs. The operating range of Wi-Fi is about 30-100 meters/100-300 feet and you can't move to another Wi-Fi access point without reconnecting. Also, there's no universal method of knowing where and how you can access a Wi-Fi access point. That said, advanced phones, such as Nokia 9500, and Qtek 2020i and iPAQ h6315 PDAs can connect both to Wi-Fi and mobile networks for optimal network connectivity.

Why 3G is better….

2G, also called edge, is a slower internet connection than 3G. The benefits of 3G over 2G are a faster connection for loading web pages, better call quality, streaming video and audio services, and an "always on" connection.
