What Is Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a wireless WPAN technology.
Bluetooth provides wireless communication and data transfer between the devices.
Bluetooth conceived as a low-power short-range radio technology designed to replace cables for interconnecting devices.
Bluetooth networks feature a dynamic topology piconet(PAN) that can contain minimum of 2 and maximum of 8 bluetooth devices.
Standard working range of bluetooth is 10 meter.

It was taken from the 10th century Danish King Herald Blatand
Erikson, Nokia, IBM, Toshiba & Intel joined to form the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG)
First specification released in July 1999.

BLUETOOTH

Uses the radio range of 2.45 GHz
The maximum bandwidth is 1 Mb/s
Several Bluetooth devices can network called a “Piconet”
Example: A conference room with many
laptops wishing to communicate with each
Other.

Requirements

Low cost as cables – chip $5
Secure as cables – must support authentication and encryption
Must support both data and voice.
Must connect to a variety of devices.
Must be able to function in a noisy environment.
Must be low power, compact and global.
