Description : Communication may be considered as the art of expressing oneself coherently. In the present electronic era, communication has taken the definition: the technique or process of exchange of meaningful data among entities. With technology as the catalyst, communication has burgeoned over the last couple of decades. The notion of a physical medium for communication is fast vanishing. Technology has it that today communication is possible without actual physical connection between devices. This project explores one such technology namely, optical communication. Infrared rays are an efficient means of communication and data transfer. The merits of this technique are that it does not require physical connection between devices, it is cost effective and it is simple and easy to implement. This project involves setting an optical communication link between two computers and transmitting and receiving data. Each computer has a transmitter and receiver attached to it and is thus capable of transmitting as well as receiving data. The data to be transferred is first collected. The compression algorithm is performed on the data. Then the encryption algorithm is used to encrypt the data to provide a basic level of security. Finally the data are converted to infrared rays and then transferred
Technology Used : Java ,Swing

This seminar report on “Wireless Network Security” attempts to provide a unified overview of method in regards to securing wireless networks. During the recent times, wireless LANs have come to occupy a significant area in the Local area network. Increasingly organizations are finding that wireless LANs are an indispensible part to traditional wired LANs, to satisfy requirements for mobility, relocation, ad-hoc networking, and coverage of locations difficult to wire. This document addresses Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) in detail and relates the various concerns regarding this. The report starts with the WLAN overview and its architecture in brief and gives detail of the Security Features and Problems of 802.11 Wireless LANs per the Standard. The report discusses inherent passive and active attacks prevailing in a wireless environment. The various risk mitigation countermeasures regarding Management, Operational and Technical aspects are discussed in great detail. The sole aim of the report is dedicated to maintain three essential elements like authentication, confidentiality and privacy completely intact. The report also discusses the hardware and software solutions in regards to wireless networking. The report proves that it is essential to remain abreast of the current and emerging trends in the technologies and in the security or insecurities of these technologies in our day to day life. The scope of this report lies in creating awareness to both people and agencies working in a completely wireless environment. Thus, the ultimate goal of the report is to present wireless LAN Security measures in regards to minimization of the risks involved with maintained authenticity, confidentially and privacy.
