Lower data rates can also be transferred via an electrical interface. The method was developed for transporting larger amounts of telephone calls and data traffic over the same fiber without synchronization problems

A highly tensile strength,low loss fiber is used to relay a video signal back to to control station to facilitate targeting by an operator
Such a fiber guided anti tank misile have been demonstrated using led sources and multimode fiber over ranges of 5 to 10km
