Voltage Regulating Panel, Signaling & Telecommunication in Railway

[attachment=45212]

Introduction of Indian Railway

1832: The first proposal was introduced for having Railways In India.
1853: On April 16th, at 3:35 pm, First railway train journeyed distance of 22 miles between Bombay and Thana.
November 1947 : John Mathai (not formerly designated as Minister to Railways) presents the first Railways budget for Independent India.
It runs 12000 trains every day
It carry 1.4crore passengers & 16 lakh tones of goods every day
Daily earnings Rs120cr

Need of Signalling & Telecommunication in Railway

The Signalling Department is responsible for Safe Train operations and maximizing the utilization of fixed and moving assets such as train rakes, locos and tracks etc.
The Telecommunication Department caters for safety related and operational communication needs of the Indian Railway network.

Data Loggers & Train Monitoring System

Train Monitoring System monitors the movements of trains within the control section from remote control room and graphically simulates online Status of the multiple stations (Digitized Yard Layouts with Train Movements) in LCD Monitors. More than one Station yard Layout can be viewed in each Monitor depending on the size of the Yard.

Data Logger

The process of using a computer to collect data through sensors, analyze the data and save the data is called Data logging and the instrument used in this called data loggers.
Data logger is a microprocessor-based system which monitors and records all activities and event in the signalling system of a railway station/yard .

Interlocking

Another safety feature introduced in the mid-19th Century was mechanical interlocking of points and signals.  The purpose was to prevent the route for a train being set up and its protecting signal cleared if there was already another, conflicting route set up and the protecting signal for that route cleared.  The interlocking was performed by a series of mechanically interacting rods connected to the signal operating levers in the signal box.  The arrangement of the rods physically prevented conflicting moves being set up.  As the systems developed, some larger signal cabins at complex junctions had huge frames of interlocking levers, which gave the name "lever frame" to the row of operating levers in a signal box.

Railway Telecommunication

Provides omnibus communication circuits on OFC and Quad cable and overhead telecom wires for operation of trains and other supporting activities of train control. The omnibus circuit provides telephone communication between the station-masters and the control center at the divisional headquarters
Data communication.
Microwave communication.
OFC communication.

Microwave Communication

The objective of microwave communication systems is to transmit information from one place to another without interruption, and clear reproduction at the receiver.
The OFC & MW communication system meets the entire need of voice and data communication circuits of the divisions and the zonal headquarters.
Above 100 MHz the waves travel in straight lines and can therefore be narrowly focused. Concentrating all the energy into a small beam using a parabolic antenna(like the satellite TV dish)
gives a much higher signal to noise ratio, but the
transmitting and receiving antennas must be accurately
aligned with each other.
