TOUCH SCREEN TECHNOLOGY

Touch screen technology was first introduced by E.A. Johnson at the Royal Radar Establishment, Malvern, UK, around 1965 - 1967. After that , in 1971 a "touch sensor" was developed by Doctor Sam Hurst but in 2002, Microsoft introduced the Windows XP Tablet edition and started its entry into touch technology and in 2007, Apple introduced the king of smart phones, the iPhone, which included touch screen technology.
Touch screen term basically refers to touching the device with fingers or with stick(stylus). The ability to interact physically with what is shown on a display typically indicates the presence of a touch screen. This is a very easiest technology without requiring any intermediate device but with stylus that needs to be held in a hand or with fingers. Touchscreens are common in devices such as game consoles, tablet computers, and smartphones. The popularity of smartphones, tablet computers and many types of information appliances is driving the demand and acceptance of common touchscreens for portable and functional electronics.
Touch screens eliminate the use of keyboards and mice with computers. Touch screen devices have fewer buttons that might break after a few months/years of operation. Touch screen gadgets usually have simple user interfaces, which are more intuitive (iPhone once again is a good example).

A Basic touch screen has three main components namely:-
a) Touch Screen Sensor: It is a clear glass panel with a touch responsive surface.
b) Controller: It is a small PC card that connects between the touch sensor and the PC.
c) Software Driver: The driver is a software update for the PC system that allows the touch screen and computer to work together.

Touch screen technology is latestly used in Business like restaurants, Banks and hospitals,in Entertainment like Interactive computer games, Government: Military control system, scientific lab research. So, because of these reasons the touch screens have been adopted by many of the users because it is simple, innovative and fast technology.
In future there would be no use of mouse and keyboard as they would be replaced by touch screens.
