The presence of dangerous LPG leaks in cars, at the service station or in the storage tank environment can be detected using the ideal gas sensor. This LPG gas leak detection unit can be easily integrated into a unit that can sound an alarm or give a visual suggestion of LPG concentration. The sensor has admirable sensitivity and fast response time. This sensor can also be used to detect other gases such as iso-butane, propane, LNG and even cigarette smoke.

The sensor output switches to LOW as soon as the LPG sensor detects any gas leakage from the storage. This is detected by the microcontroller and the LED and the buzzer is ON. After the delay of a few milliseconds, the exhaust fan also turns on to release the gas and continues to send the message as "GAS LEAK" to a preset mobile phone number.

The MQ-5 semiconductor sensor is Gas Sensitive Fuel. The MQ-5 gas sensor is made up of SnO2 which has a lower conductivity in clean air. Here a simple electrocircuit is used which is used to convert the changing conductivity into a corresponding output signal of gas concentration. Both methane and propane can be easily detected by the MQ-5 sensor, as it has a high sensitivity to methane, propane and butane. It is a low cost sensor suitable for different applications.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BLOCK DIAGRAM

MICROCONTROLLER
It is the heart of the project. It is used to control the exhaust fan, LED and buzzer when there is a leak of LPG. The microcontroller input / output ports are used for this purpose.

GLP SENSOR MQ-5
This sensor is used to detect LPG leakage. Under normal conditions, the output of this sensor is 'high' and low 'low' when the LPG is detected.

AIR EXTRACTOR
The LPG is pushed out into the environment using an extraction fan which reduces the concentration of LPG near the leakage area.

Buzzer
The LPG leak is indicated using the buzzer. It is powered buzzer 12 V DC.

LED
LPG leakage is indicated by the use of the LED. It is a 1.2 V DC LED.
