NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION

[attachment=46696]

INTRODUCTION

Short-range wireless communication technologies.
Uses magnetic field induction.
Users can simply point or touch their devices to other in the environment to communicate with them.

IMPORTANCE

Reach and availability.
Variety of use.
Ease of use.
Security and value added services.
Infrastructure.

SPECIFICATIONS

Magnetic field induction.
Globally available and unlicensed radio frequency ISM band of 13.56 MHz.
Bandwidth 2 MHz.
Working distance : up to 20 cm .
Supported data rates: 106, 212, or 424 kbit/s .

INITIATOR AND TARGET

Initiator : one who wishes to communicate and starts the communication.
Target : receives the initiator’s request and sends back a reply.
Passive mode: passive device- target.
active device- initiator.
Active mode: default all are active targets, act as initiator when required.

NFC and RFID

Basically both use the same working standards.

The difference is extension of RFID’s communication mode between two active devices.

NFC provides peer-to-peer communication.

NFC can share data between electronic devices that both have active power.
