What is a Keyboard?

The keyboard is an input device designed to enter text, characters and other commands into the computer. A computer keyboard is an important device that allows a person to enter symbols like letters and numbers into a computer. It is the main input device for most computers.
As the name keyboard suggests, it is a board that has buttons on it, called keys.
In computers, the keyboard is the thing that allows you to enter letters and numbers into a computer.
The QWERTY keyboard is another name for the standard English keyboard.
The modern day computer keyboard is based on the QWERTY layout designed by the inventor of the typewriter back in 1868, Christopher Latham Sholes. With the invention of the computer, a collective of R&D specialists came up with the electronic impulse system and added a few extra keys to the layout and the computer keyboard became a reality.
The keyboard of a laptop/notebook is normally smaller than that of a desktop/tower PC, as the desktop/tower PC keyboards tend to have a number pad, and that of the laptop/notebook is built in, while that of the desktop/tower PC is another piece on its own.
A keyboard is a computer peripheral that functions as an input device. While the keyboard is plugged into the computer, every button you press is captured by the computer and used to do what you instruct it to do. Keyboards are most often used for typing in web addresses and emails.a keyboard that is a data input device for computers; arrangement of keys is modelled after the typewriter keyboard. As the name implies, a keyboard is basically a board of keys. The keyboard is a flat board with buttons which you use to type letters. They are called keys
Along with the mouse, the keyboard is one of the primary input devices used with a computer. The keyboard's design comes from the original typewriter keyboards, which arranged letters and numbers in a way that prevented the type-bars from getting jammed when typing quickly. While the design of computer keyboards may have come from typewriters, today's keyboards have many other keys as well. Modifier keys, such as Control, Alt/Option, and Command (Mac) or the Windows key (Windows) can be used in conjunction with other keys as "shortcuts" to perform certain operations. For example, pressing Command-S (Mac), or Control-S (Windows) typically saves a document or project you are working on. Most of today's computer keyboards also have a row of function keys (F1 through F16) along the top of the keyboard, arrow keys arranged in an upside-down T, and a numeric keypad on the right-hand side. Some keyboards have even more buttons, allowing you to change the system volume, eject a CD, or open programs such as your e-mail or Web browser.

Who invited keyboard ?

Christopher Latham Sholes invented the QWERTY keyboard in 1875 when he produced the first commercial typewriter.
The name of QWERTY derives from the first six characters on the top alphabetic line of the keyboard. the order of the keyboard consists of the letters you use most on the homerow (asdfghjkl;.
Easy way to clean a computer keyboard
One of the biggest pains in computer upkeep is maintaining a clean and functional keyboard. The spaces between the keys are quite small and it always seems that dirt, dust, crumbs and everything else find ways to get between and under the keys. Luckily keyboards are also very easy to clean. There are many ways to clean keyboards, but a few stand above the rest due to their ease and thoroughness. These are mainly in 3 types,

They are:

Compressed Air

• The most common way of cleaning out the crumbs and lint and dust from a keyboard is compressed air. This is exactly what the name states: cans of highly compressed air that you can spray between the keys to remove all of the undesirables that have fallen into your keyboard. You can find compressed air at computer repair shops as well as home repair chains like Home Depot or Lowe's. Compressed air usually costs between $5 and $10, but is the single best way to keep a keyboard clean if you don't want to take it apart.

Soft, Moist Towel

• If taking your keyboard apart is no problem for you, consider using a simple soft, slightly moist towel. Not only does this allow you to sweep away all of the larger particles, but you can also sweep away the thin layer of dust that can sometimes form on circuit boards. If you decide to do this, be careful. Wiping too hard or using too much water can damage the keyboard circuits and you always run the risk of the towel fibers getting caught and tearing. Believe it or not, this can become a fire hazard if unnoticed. However, these risks, while they do exist, are very minor, and with the proper precautions you face no real danger. And of course, a moist towel is excellent for cleaning the actual keyboard keys.

Different types of computer keyboards:

Keyboards are an indispensible accessory for a computer. One of the most basic input devices, keyboards are used in navigation, execution of processes, programming and several other purposes. Several software based application directly derive their existence from a keyboard. For instance, social networking websites, programming languages, navigation over the computer menus etc. utilize a computer keyboard. Even this very article wouldn’t have been possible without a keyboard.

ERGONOMIC KEYBOARD:

The artifact of this keyboard is slightly broader and different in shape, when compared with the normal keyboard. In this key board certain space will be existing between the two sets of keys and the countered shape of this key board allow the users to place their hands in the natural position to type. These key boards are mostly used by the people who often work with the key board as their usage is easier and is less stressful for the wrist. The following figure: Ergonomic keyboard shows how the set of keys are separated with gaps in between.

Basic PC Keyboard

A basic PC keyboard is a keyboard that doesn't have any upgraded benefits and has only eighty-four keys.
The layout is similar to a type-writer with extra keys and benefits are allowed to use applications like e-mail and processing written documents.

How does a wireless keyboard work ?

A wireless keyboard works just like a television remote or wireless video game controller. There is something on the computer which receives input signals and sends them to the CPU for quick processing and then finally it's displayed on the computer monitor as the appropriate result.
