INTRODUCTION

Suratgarh thermal power station is the first super thermal plant of Rajasthan.
It has installed capacity of 1500 MW, which is highest in the state.
The power plant has 6 units of 250MW each.
A great electricity production project.
Suratgarh TPS - "The Pride of Rajasthan", is recognized amongst the best-efficient and reputed power station in the country.

Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Station is located 27Km away from Suratgarh Town in Sri Ganganagar Distt. of Rajasthan.  Awards : 
1. Cash award of 3.75 lacs (for productivity) and Rs. 6.19 lacs for specific oil consumption 2. Golden Shield award from Union Ministry of power (2000-2004)
3. Bronze shield from Union Ministry of power (05-06)

BOILER

Also termed as ‘steam
generator’
Water is evaporated in
to steam by application
of heat.
Heat source is coal
This steam is fed into
upper heaters to obtain
superheated steam.

TURBINE

Turbine, the rotary engine that converts the energy of a moving stream of water into mechanical energy.
The basic element in a turbine is a wheel or a rotor.
There are three turbines HP, IP, LP operated at 3000 rpm with initial parameters 13 kg/cm2.
This mechanical energy is transferred through a drive shaft to operate a machine.
Turbines are classified as
hydraulic or water turbines
steam or gas turbines.

HEAT EXCHANGERS

Heat exchangers are equipment that transfers heat from one medium to another.
Heat exchanger performance can deteriorate with time, off design operations and other interferences such as fouling, scaling etc.

SUPER HEATERS

Super heaters are meant to
raise the temperature of the
steam.
It eliminates the formulation
of condensate during
transporting of steam in pipe
lines, which is harmful for
turbine blades.

WATER TREATMENT PLANT

The principle problem in high-pressure boiler is to control corrosion and steam quality.
Impurities in steam also form deposit over turbine blades and nozzles.
The impurities present in water are as follows:-
Un-dissolved and suspended solid materials.
Dissolved salts minerals and gases.
Other materials (oil, acids etc.)

COAL HANDLING PLANT

The Heart of Super Thermal Power Plant because it provides the main fuel for combustion in boiler.
The coal is brought to the SSTPS through rails.
There are 14 tracks in all for transportation of coal through rails.
The coal is firstly unloaded from wagon by wagon Tripler then crushed by crushers and magnetic pulley and pulverized to be transformed to the boiler.
The whole transportation of coal is through conveyor belt operated by 3 Induction Motor.
