Voice Transmission over Local Area Network Using Bluetooth

[attachment=59987]

Abstract

Bluetooth is a low cost, low power; short-range radio
technology intended to transfer data between cell phones, PDAs
and other portable devices. Bluetooth is also used as a medium
for voice communication between cell phones. This paper aim is
to develop an application that allows a user to make use of mobile
phones enabled with Bluetooth and PC’s connected over Local
Area Network (LAN) in order to communicate with other user
who is out of Bluetooth’s range.

INTRODUCTION

Communication is essential in day to day life. People
communicate with each other for business and other purposes.
New technologies and devices have made common man’s life
easier and it has provided a way for him to exchange his ideas
easily. One such technology that has created a boom is the
Wireless technology. Consumers appreciate the wireless
lifestyle, relieving them of the well known “cable chaos” that
tends to grow under their desk.
Mobile phones are the most popular wireless devices. The
services that the phone provides such as SMS facility, call
facility, etc, have attracted billions of people across the globe.
In order to make use of such facilities, one has to pay a certain
amount of service charges to the service provider.

Software Architecture

Figure 1 depicts the system design. The system consists of
two users – sender and receiver. The person who sets up the
call is considered as the sender. The other person is
considered as the receiver. At the sender side there are two
main modules – the sender mobile and sender side service
provider. Similarly, the receiver has two modules – the
receiver mobile and receiver side service provider.

CONCLUSION

Nowadays every user owns a mobile phone equipped with a
Bluetooth facility. The Voice Communication is made
possible by combining Local Area Network (LAN) and
Bluetooth technologies. The development of this application is
mainly concentrated on using the existing infrastructure
available in the campus or the organization. Thus,
communication becomes cheaper. A half duplex form of
communication is provided in which only one user can speak
at a time and the other one listens. This application is
developed for Smartphone supporting Java Technology.
