Abstract-In this paper, the current status of applied
luminescent materials is reviewed together with its implication
for the performance of devices based on them. Our approach is
based on a consideration of fundamental aspects how to
improve the luminescent properties of perspective X-ray and
LED phosphors.
Keyword~cotnponent Luminescence, spectroscopy, optical
materials.
I. INTRODUCTION
Rare-earth doped materials are of crucial importance to
optoelectronics, and are widely deployed in solid-state lasers,
solid state lighting, LED etc. This article summarizes the
present state of the art in this rapidly growing field. Recent
developments in the areas of rare-earth doped phosphors are
discussed and some new materials or well known materials
with improved properties that open up new possibilities are
described. High efficient red, green and yellow phosphors
are of particular interest, though recent developments in
more traditional materials with improved properties are
highlighted. Compared with the best commercial phosphors,
some present synthesized phosphors have higher emission
efficiency and are a favorable choice for white LED and
displays. Emphasis is placed on europium and terbium
double activated materials, as these are of the greatest
importance for displays, IED, Xray intensifying screens
applications, but a range of other rare -earth ions are also
discussed.
