Nanotechnology has become a major and very exciting field for research and development as it presents tremendous potential for a variety of applications.it is perceived as one of the key technologies of the 21st century with a aim to flourish in the future.

In the silicon and electronics world, nanotechnology is already here in state-of-the-art high-speed silicon CMOS process technologies with feature sizes less than 100nm. Research in nanoscience is needed to facilitate these new radical scalable technologies beyond 2020. . In a few decades, this emerging technology will let us inexpensively arrange atoms and molecules in most of the ways permitted. It will let us make supercomputers that fit on the head of a pin and fleets of medical nanorobots smaller than a human cell able to eliminate cancer, infections, clogged arteries, and even old age. Hence nanotechnology is a development that cannot be avoided. The purpose of this presentation is to give an overview of silicon nanotechnology and carbon nanotubes

This describes new approach for creating carbon nanotubes and arrays of individual molecules with atomic precision on the technologically important Si (100) surface. The merger of molecular electronics with silicon-based technology represents a hybrid approach with potential. Molecular electronics is currently one area being studied as a potential successor to conventional silicon-based electronics technology .
