Project Report on Supermarket Billing System

Introduction
The project is on Supermarket Billing. Supermarket is the place where customers come to purchase their daily using products and pay for that. So there is a need to calculate how many products are sold and to generate the bill for the customer.
In our project we have 3 users. First is the data entry operator who will enter the products in file. Second one is the administrator who will decide the taxes and commissions on the products and can see the report of any product.
Third one is the bill calculating operator who will calculate the bill and print.
Objective
“To make software fast in processing, with good user interface so that user can change it and it should be used for a long time without error and maintenance.”
Work in the Supermarket will be done in the following way:
1.The product will come in the store.
2. Data entry operator will enter the information of the product in database.
3. The Administrator will enter the taxes and commissions for each product.
4. The customer will come and take the basket with him/her and choose the product and took it to the counter.
5. The bill calculating operator will check the products with the bar code detecting machine then it will match with product-id then it will show its information and price and the bill will be calculated and total payment will shown.
6. Customer will pay for the products.
7. All the products will be packed and delivered to the customer.
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PARADIGM
The development strategy that encompasses the process, methods and tools and the generic phases is called software engineering paradigm. The software paradigm for software is chosen based on the nature of the project and the application, the method and tools and the controls and deliverable that are required.
There are various software paradigms as follows:
1. Waterfall model
2. Iterative model
3. Prototype model
4. Evolutionary model
5. Spiral mode.
IDENTIFICATION OF NEED
In current competitive scenario every business establishment needs quality processes to increase their efficiency as well as improve their productivity. It is of vital importance that manual, time consuming & monotonous operations be automated so as to streamline the working of an organization. Since, the existing system (manual work) takes more time and manpower for processing. It is keeping in mind this business philosophy (mantra) that we propose a SUPER MARKET BILLING SYSTEM.
PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION
The purpose of Preliminary Investigation is to evaluate project requests. It is the collection of details to describe the business system in all respect. Preliminary Investigation also examine project feasibility, the likelihood the system will be useful to the organizer.
PLANNING
In the system the different components are connected with other and they are interdepedent. For example, human body represents a complete natural system. We are also bound by many national system such as political system,economic system, education system and so forth.The objective of the system demand that some output is produced as a result of processing the suitable inputs.
Plannig is a phase in which we plan all the requirments of the project. It helps in establishing a system project , because it gives overall list of process and sub processed required devloping a system.
In others words we can say that various activities put together are refferd as system devlopment life cycle. In the systen analysisand design terminology.
