Wireless USB
Wireless USB.docx (Size: 20.68 KB / Downloads: 26) Introduction Wireless USB is the new wireless extension to USB.Wireless USB is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless radio communication protocol andcombines the speed and security of wired technology with the ease-of-use of wireless technology.Wireless USB is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless radio communication protocol.Wireless USB is based on the WiMedia Alliance's Ultra-WideBand common radio platform and can send480 Mbit/s at distances up to 3 meters and 110 Mbit/s at up to 10 meters. The Wireless USB Promoter Group is chartered with defining the wireless USB (WUSB) specification. There has been some progress with the definition of a WUSB specification with a targeted bandwidth of 480 Mbps. This specification maintains the same usage and architecture as wired USB with a high-speed host-to-device connection. The fundamental relationship in WUSB is a hub and spoke topology. In this topology, the host initiates all the data traffic among the devices connected to it, allotting time slots and data bandwidth to each device connected. This kind of relationship is called clusters. The connections are point-to-point and directed between the host and device. The WUSB host can logically connect to a maximum of 127 WUSB devices for an informal WUSB cluster. WUSB clusters coexist within an overlapping spatial environment with minimum interference, thus allowing a number of other WUSB clusters to be present within the same radio cell. Topology will support a dual role model where a device can also support limited host capabilities. This model allows mobile devices to access services with a central host supporting the services. This model also allows a device to access data outside an existing cluster it may currently be connected to by creating a second cluster as a limited host. Additionally, high spatial capacity in small areas is needed to enable multiple device access to high bandwidth concurrently. Multiple channel activities may take place within a given area. The topology will support multiple clusters in the same area. The number of clusters to be supported is still being determined. Advantages of WUSB • Give a good wireless range • speedy through out • Simple in installation • You can share it with many Pc's • Light weight • Most important Portable • comes with 40-bit WEP , 64-bit WEP , 128-bit WEP Encryption Algorithms (depends on different models i think) Disadvantage of WUSB • More prone to damage • Fragile • Could be expensive Business Implications Today 10 million users connect their PC to their TV so that they can stream online content from their PC to their choice of display device. The various wireless USB products can provide this connection wirelessly up to 30 feet away, thus saving consumer from hassles of adaptors and long cables. Today many consumers feel the need of having a little extra display space on their laptops and desktops for data display. Many companies are coming up with low cost, light and low power consuming TFT controller boards that can be connected to the parent device using WUSB. Certain companies have come up with WUSB HD Media Players that can again be used to wirelessly stream anything from the laptop onto the TV. Thus the consumers will now be able to view any sort of data on HDTV. Certain vendors have introduced a WUSB based docking station that use ultra wideband wireless technology which supports Certified Wireless USB Device Controller functionality and supports the full array of WUSB device functions, including all transfer types i.e. control, bulk, interrupt, and isochronous plus a multi-host capability. It also allows us to wirelessly connect our laptop/notebook to our external display, projector, networks, and USB devices, such as a mouse, keyboard and printer, in addition to external speakers. Companies are coming up with WUSB security cameras these days. These are very advanced versions over previous cameras, as in they offer ease of installation, offer higher quality pictures from a longer range and offer better clarity in near complete darkness as well. Emerging Players and Competitors Wireless USB was created by the Wireless USB promoter group. The wireless USB promoter group is comprised of seven industry leaders: Intel, Microsoft Corporation, NEC, Agere Systems, HP, Philips Semiconductors and Samsung Electronics. Transferjet is a close proximity wireless transfer technology developed by Sony. The Transferjet consortium was formed in July 2008 and has 19 promoter member companies which are: Casio, Canon, Eastman Kodak, Hitachi, JVC-Kenwood, KDDI, NEC, Nikon, NTTdocomo, Olympus, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, SoftBank Mobile, Sony, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba.Transferjet is faster than wireless USB. Bluetooth 4.0 is another major innovative technology.

wireless USB
wireless USB.pptx (Size: 629.91 KB / Downloads: 22) USB(Universal Serial Bus) USB:- Universal Serial Bus . is a specification to establish communication between devices and a host controller. Wired USB:- USB is plugged for peripheral devices. There are used to transfer data from one device to another device. Eg:-As we transfer data from pen drives to Pc’s and vise versa. DATA RATES:- Low speed:1.5 mbps Full speed:12 mbps High speed:480 mbps Wireless USB It is the natural evolution .It is the extension of USB . It was first introduced in 2004 by wireless USB promoter group. Wireless USB is short-range, high bandwidth wireless radio communication protocol . Wireless USB are developed by seven companies: Intel corporation ,HP , LSI , logic , Microsoft corporation ,NCE corporation ,NXP semiconductors ,Samsung electronics. Development The Wireless USB Promoter Group was formed in February 2004 to define the Wireless USB . In May 2005, the Wireless USB Promoter Group announced the completion of the Wireless USB specification. In June 2006, five companies showed the first multi-vendor interoperability demonstration of Wireless USB. A laptop with an Intel host adapter using an Alereon PHY was used to transfer high definition video from a Philips wireless semiconductor solution with a Realtek PHY, XP drivers developed for Wireless USB. DESIGN Certified wireless USB was designed from the ground up to address the specific challenges of wireless communication and personal networking. This design is based on the ultra-wide band(UWB) radio system called orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM). FEATURES SPEED/RANGE: scalable speeds up over 1Gbps. currently 480Mbps at 3mt;110Mbps at 10mt. FREQUENCY: 3.1 GHz to 10.6GHz. divided into 14 bands and 5 groups . each band in 528MHz wide. OFDM symbols are interleaved across all bands. provides protection against multi-path/interface. continue… Hardware support All of your current USB peripherals will still utilize the wired USB connection they always have. Wireless USB, however, opens up a variety of new types of devices. Wireless USB hubs, or bridging devices. They will allow you to plug wired USB peripherals into the hub, but the hub itself will enjoy a wireless connection to the computer. In this way, you can experience the convenience of wireless connectivity without replacing all your USB peripherals with wireless versions. HWAs are physically connect to the computer via USB 2.0 or a laptop's CardBus or ExpressCard interface, and provide Wireless USB host capability to any number of WUSB devices. DWAs, or "Wireless USB hubs ", allow existing wired USB devices to be used wirelessly with a WUSB host. Operating system support All major computer operating systems are planned to support wireless USB. However, at the moment. wireless USB functionality is provided only by proprietary software drivers and is largely device-specific. As the standard matures and subsequent releases of your favorite operating system become available. Apple has not released any information regarding Mac OS X support for Certified Wireless USB. How does it work? Plug in the included your laptop or your desktop to make it wireless USB enabled . Connect to your printer ,digital camera , external hard drive ,and any other peripheral to IOGEAR’s wireless USB hub. Wirelessly print ,download pictures and back up files or play video at blazing speed of up to 480Mbps. Limitations In a rush towards a totally wireless desktop, there is a danger that the practical limitations of USB become lost in the marketing fervor. A number of Wireless USB adapters are available, but most of them are rather limited when it comes to resolution/bandwidth. Unless the security is properly setup both your laptop and the network you are connecting to can be compromised and you data be read by others the hardware is flaky, it can get damaged, lost or stolen. |
