INTRODUCTION
traffic lights were invented and placed at junctions to
control the road traffic flow for road diversions.
Relatively, study shows that highest number of road
accidents occurs at these junctions due to careless and
recklessness of the drivers especially when the traffic lights go
faulty due to various reasons. Knowing the traffic light plays a
significant role to ensure all signals are displayed according to
the desired timing, sequence and control, priority should be
focused to guarantee minimal or no traffic light faults are
taking place.
Currently, there is no traffic light fault alert system to alert
the contractor upon any malfunction of the traffic light or pole
damage. Instead, an emergency number is placed on the traffic
light pole for the users to contact the contractor for repair.
Owning the ‘IT’S OK attitude’ by most of us will never bother
to contact the placed number and therefore, the traffic light
will remain faulty for a very unexpected long period. This is
where the major accidents will take place which may lead to
life threats.
Electrical fault detection system
The electrical fault detection system is made in such a way
that, it will alert the authorized personnel when the traffic light
bulb blows off or indicator is faulty, broken or electrical
malfunctions take place due to impact onto the pole or natural
fatigue or disaster causes. This system can even inform the
person in precise of which color bulb or indicator is faulty and
what kind of corrective actions are required so that the
maintenance man can come to the spot with exact spare-parts
and equipments.
There are two types of indicators used in traffic light pole
which is filament and light emitting diode (LED). Both types
of indicators are bound to faultiness in long run or due to wear
and tear. The most common fault in the indicators is open
condition (indicators blow off). In the conventional traffic
light system, such faults are clearly visible for passing by
people on the road. This sometimes may lead confusion to
drivers and lead to unwanted road accidents.
USEFULNESS OF WI- TRAFFIC LIGHT
The proposed Wi - Traffic Light system is designed based
on the factors which are occurring on the conventional traffic
light system. This designed system is to overwrite on the
critical faults in an existing traffic light system.
CONCLUSION
With the development of traffic light mechanical and
electrical fault detection system, it is expected that number of
road accidents due to malfunctionality of traffic lights can be
brought down rapidly. Thus, not only saves human life, but
also saves a lot of man-hour in frequent patrolling to inspect of
damaged poles. This system also ensures the contractors to
carry out their task instantly without delay as the SMS has the
ability of logging the time frame and date details. Thus, it is
expected that, this unique detection system would take into
place in near future.
