DESCRIPTION
The transformer protection demo panel is designed to give the demonstration of differential protection
scheme used for power transformers. The power transformers, generally rated more than 1 MVA, are provided
with differential protection scheme, to protect the transformer from internal faults. The internal faults may be
created due to ageing effect, excessive heating, insufficient cooling system, failure of insulation etc.
The protection demo panel comprises a 3-Phase transformer with number of tapings on HV & LV
windings. The provision is made to create internal fault condition with help of fault simulating switches. The
levels of fault currents are controlled by series resistors with fault simulating switch.
The protective relaying scheme is designed for model transformer. The protective relaying scheme
comprises a 3-element, percentage based differential relay, current transformers and circuit breakers. This
gives similar demonstration of differential protection scheme.
The demo panel also comprises with fault annunciation system with visual & audio fault indication &
accept/reset facility. The process of fault clearing can be demonstrated from the same system. The total time
required to clear the fault can be measured with timer.
The demo panel is facilitated with Digital panel meters and indications for voltage & current at HV and LV
side of transformer. The unit is simple to operated and easy to understand. The provision is made to connect
transformer windings in delta or star at front panel. The mimic diagram and CT terminals are provided on front
panel.
