ABSTRACT
Information is the magic wand that augurs success to business in the computer world .
It is therefore required to protect one corporate data from being accessed, stolen or modified .Every day hundreds and thousands of people interact electronically whether it is through e-mail, e-commerce, ATM-machines or cellular phones. The perpetual increase of information transmitted electronically has lead to an increased reliance on cryptography. The cryptography is not just encryption and decryption , it deals with various aspects such as authentication, digital signatures, hashing functions etc. The main objective of this paper starts with the cryptography terminology and provides a brief overview of various types of cryptographic algorithms such as DES and RSA. We also explain the implementation of symmetric encryption algorithm and finally the applications of cryptography.
INTRODUCTION:
The protection of information systems against unauthorized access to or identification of information ,whether in storage, processing or transit, and against the denial of service to authorized users or the provision of service to unauthorized users, including those measures necessary to detect, document and counter such threats.
The sender wants to send the message to the receiver more securely.
Security of information is provided by two methods namely cryptography and staganography. Cryptography has been used from ancient days onwards by kings for secret communication.
WHAT IS CRYPTOGRAPHY?
Cryptography is the art and science of keeping message secret .The word cryptography is derived from the greek words kryptos(hidden) and graphein(writing).
CONCLUSION:
The perceptual increase of information transmitted electronically has lead to an increased reliance on cryptography. To allow people to do online banking ,online trading and making online purchases with credit cards without worrying about security ,cryptography is very important. It is used not only in the internet but is also used to control access to satellite cable TV. In this way it deals not only with encryption and decryption of messages .Without cryptography hackers could get into e-mail ,listen our phone conversation ,tap into the cable companies and acquire free cable service or break into bank accounts.
