VOCAL NODULES
They appear symmetrically on the free edge of vocal cord at the junction of anterior 1/3 and posterior 2/3
----this is the area of max. vibration and hence subjected to max. trauma .
Aetiology:
Vocal trauma(abuse)
Mainly affecting Teachers, Actors, Vendors, Singers,& talkative children.
Pathology:
Trauma to the vocal cord in the form of vocal abuse/misuse
Oedema and haemorrhage in the submucosal space…..
TREATMENT:
Early cases—educating the patient in proper use of the voice.
Surgery---for large nodules and long-standing nodules in adults.
Speech therapy and re-education in voice production are essential to prevent recurrence..
