INTRODUCTION
Animation means the illusion of movement caused by the rapid display of a series of still images. When the images are viewed at a rate of over 10per sec, the eye perceives motion. Nowadays almost all films make us of the computer animation.Eg:- Jurassic Park, Bats
REALISM IN 3D GRAPHICS
Here producing a realistic image of a 3D scene on a 2D display. There are many problems in producing the image. The main problem is in displaying the depth. The basic problem addressed by visualization technique is sometime called “Depth cueing”. When 3D scene is projected into a 2D screen, the information about the depth of the object in the image tends to reduce or lost
PARALLEL PROJECTION
We will project parallel lines onto the plane viewing surface through the object. There are different viewing surface like top, bottom, right, left views. Using these different projection we can produce 2D view of the object.
KINETIC DEPTH EFFECT
By watching an object move ie, by rotating the object about vertical axis. Lines nearer to the viewer move more rapidly than those far away & the lines 0n opposite side move the opposite direction
SHADING
After defining the shape they must be rendered with smooth surface and should provide texture, shadows to make the seen look realistic. To provide solid surface we can use flat shading model, which gives the skin to the wire frame skeleton, but does not smooth it.
The next level is Gouraud shading. This scheme removes the intensity discontinuity between adjacent planes. Ie, by linearly varying intensity over each plane , so that intensity values match at the plane boundaries.
The another technique is phong shading. Which is based on an analysis of how we perceives color. There are 3 properties:
CONFIGURING SYSTEM FOR ANIMATION
Windows 3.1 running in enhanced (386)mode
80486 processor(486 or higher is recommended),650MHz
16MB RAM (recommended 16MB or more, because the system may simultaneously use several copies of our image while creating animation)
1GB harddisk(we are strongly advised to use a large drive more is better).
Mouse or pointing device as an input unit
Video display adaptor that can support 256 colours or more.
6MB video RAM for displaying the graphics
CONCLUSION
Here I explained how 3D animation is done . The 3D animation is growing very fastly because of the human interest in it and so the technique is updated day by day.
