Installation and configuration web server (Client-server based)
Principle/Theory:
IIS Microsoft’s web Server s/w using HTTP to deliver world wide web documents. It incorporates various functions for security allow for CGI application and also provides for files transfer protocol server. In 4.0 and above IIs was named Internet information Server.
Installation:
If you are running window XP professional on your computer you can install Microsoft web server. IIS 5.1 for free from the windows XP professional installation CD & configure it to run on your system by following the instruction below.
1. Place the Window XP professional. CD-ROM in CD drive.
2. Open Add/Remove Windows component found in Add or Remove programs in the “Control Panel”.
3. Place a tick in the Check Box for IIS leaving all the defaults install setting intact.
4. Once IIS is installed on your machine you can view your home page in web browser by typing ‘http://localhost’ into address bar of your web server browser.
5. If you are not sure the name of your computer right click on ‘My Computer’ icon on your desktop, select ‘properties’ from the shortcut menu and click on ‘Computer Name’ tab.
Authentication:
Use most service from of authentication possible e.g. integrated windows Authentication & Digest Authentication.
Web Performance:
1. Synchronize Web & NTFS permission
2. Use IP address restrictions if IIS administrating remotely.
3. Use the most restrictive permission possible.
Physical security:
1. Local the workstation when using Ctrl +Alt+ Del.
2. Use password processed screen saver.
Personal Security:
Use different Authentication.
1. Anonymous Authentication.
2. Basic Authentication
3. Integrated Window Authentication
4. Certificate Authentication
