INTRODUCTION
AUTOMATION:
Automation is the use of control systems (such as numerical control, programmable logic control, and other industrial control systems), in concert with other applications of information technology (such as computer-aided technologies (CAD, CAM), to control industrial machinery and processes, reducing the need for human intervention. In the scope of industrialization, automation is a step beyond mechanization. Whereas mechanization provided human operators with machinery to assist them with the muscular requirements of work, automation greatly reduces the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well. Processes and systems can also be automated.
NEED FOR AUTOMATION:
Replacing human operators in tasks that involve hard physical or monotonous work.
Replacing humans in tasks that should be done in dangerous environments (i.e. fire, space, volcanoes, nuclear facilities, underwater, etc)
Making tasks that are beyond the human capabilities such as handling too heavy loads, too large objects, too hot or too cold substances or the requirement to make things too fast or too slow.
THEORY OF SEMI- AUTOMATIC BOARD CLEANER:
The semi-automatic board cleaner is a device which uses simple parts such as a wooden clamp, collapsal gate, duster and various other fittings to clean a writing board automatically when required.
FASTENERS FOR THE SETUP:
A fastener is a hardware device that mechanically joins or affixes two or more objects together.
Fasteners can also be used to close a container such as a bag, a box, or an envelope; or they may
involve keeping together the sides of an opening of flexible material, attaching a lid to a container, etc.
MECHANISM OF THE SEMI-AUTOMATIC BOARD CLEANER:
A picture of the actual setup is shown below without the duster attached to the chain. The process of the working of the automatic board cleaner is discussed in this section. The wooden pieces are chopped and shaped into tiny rectangular pieces. The pieces are Held in cross with each other so that they form” x” like structure. The intersection point is fixed with fastener such as nut and bolt. This should be repeated till it gets a repeated pattern. Care should be taken the formed structure should not exceed or within the board length.
CONCLUSION:
Thus the design and fabrication of the semi-automatic board cleaner was done according to the given requirements and automation was done. The various parts of the semi-automatic board cleaner were designed according to the required and available specifications. The semi-automatic board cleaner can be used not only for small miniature setups but also for large 8 feet long boards which use chalk as the writing medium.
ADVANTAGES:
1. Provides automation
2. Saves time
3. Reduces human fatigue
4. Simple construction
5. Cheap construction
6. No-Power requirement
7. No maintenance cost
8. Long life
DISADVANTAGES:
1.It is not automatic
