Here we present a micro-controller-based project for tracking a vehicle using a global positioning system (GPS) and a global system for mobile communications (GSM).
This is a cheaper solution than a two-way GPS communication system in which communication takes place both ways with GPS satellites. This project uses only one GPS device and two-way communication is achieved using a GSM modem. The GSM modem with a SIM card used here implements the same communication technique as in a normal cell phone.
The system can be mounted or mounted on your vehicle in a concealed or suitable compartment. After this installation, you can easily track your vehicle using your mobile phone by dialing the mobile number of the SIM card connected to the GSM modem. You will automatically get the vehicle's location in the form of an SMS (short message) on your mobile phone.
This system allows you to track your vehicle anytime, anywhere. If you own a company with a fleet of hundreds of vehicles or have an expensive piece of equipment and you want to keep an eye on them, this tracking system can inform you of the status without actually being present on the site.
FIG. 1 shows the block diagram of the vehicle tracking system based on GPS and GSM.
Applications and benefits
1. You can locate your stolen vehicle easily using your mobile phone at no additional cost.
2. It can be used for trucks carrying valuable goods, in order to keep track of the delivery status and the location of the truck at all times.
3. The device guarantees the safety of the vehicle and a smooth management of the fleet.
4. You can easily install it on any vehicle such as cars, boats and motorcycles. An SMS will inform you if the vehicle is stationary or in motion.
5. You can also use it to hold the tab on your controller. It reduces vehicle abuse and, ultimately, leads to significant cost savings for people, fleet owners and the like.
