Remote Administration Tool
Remote Administration Tool or RAT is a technology used to remotely connect and manage a single or multiple computers with a variety of tools, such as:
* Screen/camera capture or control
* File management (download/upload/execute/etc.)
* Shell control (usually piped from command prompt)
* Computer control (power off/on/log off)
* Registry management (query/add/delete/modify)
* Other product-specific function
The system that we propose to build is one, which has a specialized web server running on the remote system, while the client can be just any web browser. The unique feature of WebRAT is that we require just a web browser (any) on client side i.e; a specialized web server running on the remote, while client is just any web browser. It has the following advantages,
• Since the only tool (client) required is a web browser, the user can access the remote computer from anywhere and doesn’t need to possess specially written client software with him
• Since as stated above, that the only required client tool is a web browser the remote computer can be accessed/controlled from a computer running any operating system.
Some popular RAT’s that are available these days are Back Orifice & Spy Anywhere for Windows and WebMin for Linux.
