ABSTRACT
The design and the analysis of a Geneva Device are discussed here. Geneva device finds their application in many fields starting from the lathe, where they are used for switching tools and in projectors too. Geneva is one of the earliest of all intermittent motion mechanisms, where input is in form of continuous rotation. This is a type of clamping mechanism which it is, either used to hold the work piece or the tool. They are cheaper than cams or star wheels and have adequate to good performance characteristics, depending on load factors and other design requirements. This paper deals with the design of a Geneva device, their design calculations and the analysis. The solid 3d modeling of a Geneva device is also presented here. The 2d sketch of a Geneva device is shown below.
