COMPANY OVERVIEW
On October 1, 2000 the Department of Telecom Operations, Government of India became a corporation & was christened BHARAT SANCHAR NIGAM LIMITED (BSNL). Today BSNL is the No.1 Telecommunications Company & the largest Public Sector Undertaking of India & its responsibilities include improvement of the already impeccable quality of telecom services, expansion of telecom network, introduction of new telecom services in all villages & instilling confidence among its customers.
Today with an app. 43 million line capacity, 99.9% of its exchanges digital, nation wide Network Management & Surveillance system (NMSS) to control telecom traffic & nearly 3, 55,632 route kms of OFC network, BSNL is a name to reckon with in the world of connectivity. Along with its vast customer base, BSNL’s financial & asset bases too are vast & strong. Consider the figures, as they speak volumes on BSNL’s standing:
• The telephone infrastructure alone is worth about Rs.1, 00,000 crore (U.S. $21.2 billion).
• Turnover of Rs.22,000 crores (US 4.6 billion)
HISTORY
The formation of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on 1st October 2000 was one of the landmark events in the history of Telecommunications in India. Today, BSNL is the largest Public Sector Undertaking of the nation serving more than 35 million customers. It has the responsibilities to improve already impeccable quality of telecom services, expansion of telecom network, taking telecom services in all the villages and instilling confidence amongst its customers.

Changing regulations, converging markets, competing technologies and ever demanding customer needs have generated enormous additional opportunities for BSNL and so are the challenges.
The company with a sound financial base is ready to face the impact of the upcoming competition. BSNL has received an overwhelming response to its simultaneous launch of GSM cellular mobile Telephone services (CMTS) across the country. The introduction of DSL technology in the access network will be another solution to meet the demand for high bandwidth considerably. Other technological innovations in the form of Managed Leased Line Networks (MLLN), LMDS, DLCs & RLC in the access network are in different phases of implementation.

BSNL is the largest telecom operator in India and is known to everybody for Basic Telephony Services for over 100 years. Presently the Plain old, Countrywide telephone service is being provided through 32,000 electronic exchanges, 326 Digital Trunk Automatic Exchanges (TAX), Digitalized Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) all interlinked by over 2.4 lakh km of Optical Fiber Cable, with a host of Phone Plus value additions to our valued Customers. BSNL's telephony network expands throughout the vast expanses of the country reaching to the remotest part of the country.
BROADBAND NETWORK
INTRODUCTION
“A high speed Internet connection with at least 256Kbps speed is termed as a Broadband connection”.
To be little more technical, a channel may be broadband if it sends a signal without modulation on a carrier. The signal covers the whole range of frequency that medium can carry.
The broad band term is now hijacked by the Internet Service Provider. Hence now the term broadband is a term used for high speed Internet access.

CORE ROUTER:
It is heart of broadband Network. The function of core router is connect core network to broadband remote access server (BRAC) and provide the better service of broadband with high speed of transferring the data.
In India BSNL has provided five core routers. These are connected to each other through satellite. It provides the signals which make the connectivity nationally and internationally and provide the service all over world.
