INTRODUCTION
Java related tools becoming the best choice for the web applications. Thousands of programmer moved to JAVA from VC++ and VB. To recover market, Micro-Soft announced .NET.
Microsoft has a wonderful history of starting late but catching up quickly. It is true in case of .NET.
Micro-Soft put their best men at work for a secret project called NGWS (Next Generation Windows Services) under the direct supervision of Bill Gates.
The outcome of the project is what we now known as .NET.
VC++ was a powerful tool but it was too complex . It has too many data types and many libraries.
VB was very easy to use , It was not very flexible to develop serious applications .
Sun’s JAVA became a very good choice for these reasons. It had the flexibilities and power of C++ and at the same time easy enough to catch the attention of VB prog.
Introduction to .NET
Micro-Soft took many of the best ideas in the industry, added their own creativity and innovations and produced a coherent systems solution popularly known as Micro-Soft .NET.
.NET is platform Dependent (only for windows) but in near future it is going to be platform independent.
Platform means the combination of hardware and operating system.
Features to .NET
The .NET Platform offers a complete suite for developing and deploying applications. This suite consists of
.NET products:
Microsoft has introduced Visual Studio .NET IDE, which is a tool for developing .NET applications.
NET programming languages: Visual Basic, Visual C#,Visual J# and Visual C++.
All .NET products use eXtensible Markup Language (XML) for describing and exchanging data between applications.
.NET services:
Web services: A Web service is an application or business logic that is accessible through standard Internet protocols such as HTTP and SOAP.
The .NET Framework:
It is a foundation for developing, designing and deploying applications.
It exists as a layer between .NET applications and the underlying operating system.
Visual Studio .NET IDE
The Visual Studio .NET IDE provides you with a common interface for developing various kinds of projects for the .NET Framework.
The IDE also provides you with a centralized location for designing the user interface for an application, writing code, and compiling and debugging the application.
