ABSTRACT
Technological progress in the manufacture of the hydraulic machines is ensured by the extensive research work conducted at the plant and specialized research laboratories and institutes.
The further improvement of hydraulic machines aims to improve the energy characteristics of pumps, to raise their reliability in operation, to cut down the cost of equipment and structures, to reduce the operating costs, and to improve the automation and control systems
INTRODUCTION
A hydraulic machine in which energy is transmitted from the working members to the flowing liquid and the energy of the liquid at the inlet of the hydraulic machine is less than the outlet energy are referred as pumps.
Pump is a device that expends energy in order to raise, transport, or compress fluids.
PRINCIPLE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC PUMPS
A magnetic field of uniform strength or intensity in which is placed a straight conductor that carries conductor in the direction perpendicular to the direction flux lines as shown. The magnetic lines of flux start from the North Pole and go into the South Pole.
Now, we can find that there exist two magnetic fields
Due to the current carried by the
The main magnetic field due to the magnets.
FLEMING’S LEFT HAND RULE
It states that “ With the forefinger, middle finger, and thumb mutually perpendicular, point the forefinger in the direction of the field or flux, the middle finger in the direction of the current in the conductor, and the thumb will point in the direction in which the conductor tends to move”.
ELECTROMAGNETIC PUMPS
EMP uses the principle of electromagnetics to circulate molten metal
The proper bath circulation ensures effective heat transfer from the combustion space to the bath, minimizing dross formation andimproving the thermal
efficiency of the furnace.
A powerful magnetic field wraps
around a refractory lining through which
molten metal is propelled one way or the
other, depending on the polarity of the field
CONCLUSION
The electromagnetic pump works by Faraday’s principle.
It does not have moving parts which enhances its reliability.
This facilitates the natural circulation of the fluid and enhances its safe passivity feature.
An electromagnetic pump based on the above mentioned theory has been developed. The pump design needs to be optimized for optimum efficiency .
