ABSTRACT
Ipv4 has been used since 1981 and now in the today world everybody is connected to the internet through the IPv4. Every mobile device, internet web sites are provided IPv4 and is being used allocated to different device continuously with the advancement and increasing with its demand. Various methods has been adopted to fulfil our today demands and these methods like NAT etc helps a lot ,otherwise IPv4 will be exhausted within 5-6 years after it was developed. It has been founds the only few /8 blocks or 5% of the total IPv4 address has been left according to Regional Internet Registers. It is estimated that Ipv4 will be exhausted in the coming 1-2 years or in 2011. Thus we need a new IP address which includes large no. of IP space. IPv6 is the one who full fill these demands. Ipv6 was deployed in 1998, when it was estimated that IPv4 will be exhausted one day. Ipv6 is of 128 bits as compared to the 32 bits of IPV4. IPv6 support about 3.4×1038 .Today in every operating system like window vista, window 7 has IPv6 by default. Now Solaris also contain the facility of IPv6. New types of System are made on taking into account of IPv6.Cisco Router now also contain the feature of handling Ipv6. Ipv6 has the advantage that it is more secured and the disadvantage that old device can not operate on the IPv6. Replacement of old devices with the new device cost a lot. Since some methods has been implemented to work on both IPv4 and IPv6 so that both can work efficiently on the same time on the internet. It has been concluded that IPv6 are now ready to use in 1 year and the industries, people should be covered themselves in such a way to face the new future Internet protocol.
