Blu-ray Disc (BD)
INTRODUCTION
Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by members of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition (HD) video, as well as storing large amounts of data.
CONCEPT OF NAME
The blu-ray name is a combination of “blue”, for the color of the laser that is used and “ray” for optical ray.
The “e” in “blue” was purposefully left off, according to the manufacturers, because an everyday word cannot be a trademark.
FEATURES
Record HDTV without any loss
Instantly skip to any spot on disc
Record one program while watching other on the disc
Create playlists
Edit or reorder programs recorded on disc
Automatically search for an empty space on the disc to avoid recording over a program
INVENTOR
Nakamura Shuji, born May 22, 1954 in Ikata, Ehime, Japan), is a professor at the Materials Department of the College of Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara(UCSB).
He was the inventor of Blue Laser.
CONCLUSION
Thus we had done a brief study of the next generation’s optical disc
I.e. BLU RAY DISC.
Thanks for the BDA members for making such a storing device. Also Shuji Nakamura who has done a great deed in invention of blue laser.
