Introduction
Scilab is an open source platform for numerical computations.
It is a high productivity tool with reliable and efficient computational techniques. In functionality, it is similar to to the commercial software package Matlab.
The Scilab workshop is jointly organised by IIT Bombay and
the Scilab Development Team at INRIA.
Why attend this Workshop
Key Members of the Scilab Development Team from INRIA will be present to give introductory as well as advanced level talks on Scilab. Several academic and industrial users from different parts of India will give talks on the projects they have implemented in Scilab. The hands-on session will give sufficient training to get started with Scilab. A free copy of the Scilab software will be given to every participant.
Salient features of the Workshop
• Introduction to Scilab - by Scilab Team
• Contributed presentations by researchers from India
• Hands-on Scilab - Lab sessions
• Advanced use of Scilab - by Scilab Team
• Panel discussions and strategy sessions
Who should attend this Workshop
Scilab is free, while at the same time providing functionalities comparable to existing state of the art commercial products. Hence almost anyone who has to carry out any computation will find this Workshop to be extremely useful. Industrial participants will benefit because Scilab is free. Additionally, there are no restrictions on the use of Scilab and hence scientists from
research labs will find the Workshop especially attractive. Teachers of schools/colleges/universities who have the need of an affordable computational package will also benefit from this Workshop.
Duration
The Workshop duration is two days: each day consists of morning lecture sessions with afternoon lab/strategy sessions. The lab sessions involve hands-on exposure to Scilab.
