INTRODUCTION
Some procedures operated by women sometimes fail because they have been designed to be operated by men. The importance of women participation, holistic approaches and gender sensitivity in planning an design of procedure cannot be overstated.
DEFINITIONS
GENDER
Sexual identity, especially in relation to society or culture. Gender is a product of the social construction of (biological) differences between males and females.
GENDER SENSITIVE ISSUES
Gender sensitivity is the act of being sensitive to the ways people think about gender, so that people rely less on assumptions about traditional and outdated views on the roles of men and women.
THE ISSUES
a) Male and female communication styles are often different and pose challenge to different gender, nurse-patient encounters.b) literature about female and male physician differences in practice pattern and attitude reveals differences.
c ) disparities in clinical decision

search have recently been reported.
d) Sex harassment of female patients by
male nurses incidence has been topic of ethical
discussions for generations. More recent
evidence indicates sexual harassment
of female nurse by male patients.

Because there are so many women in medicine today, patients have choice about gender of physicians
Literature reveals that physicians spend an average of 18sec clinical encounter
Studies of female physicians practices revels that women spend more time with patients
INCREASING NUMBERS IN MALE NURSES
Study demonstrate that men come to the nursing profession , reasons are following
1. They want to care for sick & injured people.
2. They want a challenging profession.
3. Reasonable job security with good wages.
4. Male nurses on an average earn more because they are more likely to work in intensive care units & as a supervisors.
5. Overall the reality is that nurses are greatly valued by other health care professionals.

Today discrimination against male nurses is rare, many still feel that not treated as equals so they need to prove themselves more than their female nurses
Despite women having better qualification and more experience men quickly climb career ladder much more quickly
