Introduction:-
The Electrical Energy is transmitted from generating station to the far away consumers through a network of transmission & distribution. For good & reliable transmission the voltage level at the receiving end must be maintained at optimum limit.
Methods of voltage control:-
1. Shunt compensation
2. Series compensation
3. Synchronous Compensation
4. Tap changing transformer
5. Booster transformer
Synchronous compensator:-
A synchronous compensator is a device identical to a synchronous motor, whose shaft is not connected to anything but spins freely. Its purpose is not to convert electric power to mechanical power or vice versa, but to adjust conditions on the electric power transmission grid.
Tap changing transformer
This technique is rather simple in concept and uses established thyristor technology. Electronic tap changing is achieved via the use of back-to-back thyristors with a tap-changing transformer .
Booster Transformer
Booster transformers are single-phase transformers with the ratio 1:1. They have low impedance values, but despite that, they must tolerate the stresses of short-circuit currents.
Types of Static VAR Compensation
Thyristor-controlled reactor (TCR)
Thyristor-switched capacitor (TSC)
Thyristor-switched reactor (TSR)
Fixed Compensator- Thyristor-controlled reactor (FC-TCR)
