INTRODUCTION
It means the contamination of water by such substances whose presence in excess amount in water cause problems for animals and humans.
It affects plants animals and organisms living in these bodies of water; and in almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities.
Water Pollution Categories
POINT SOURCE POLLUTION
If pollution comes from a single location, such as a discharge pipe attached to a factory. E.g.: a discharge from a smoke stack (factory chimney), or someone pouring oil from their car down a drain.
NON POINT SOURCE POLLUTION
When pollution comes from many different scattered sources. It enters the water bodies from various sources.
Types of water pollution
Surface Water Pollution
Ground Water pollution
Microbiological Pollution
Oxygen Depletion Pollution
Types of water pollution
Surface Water Pollution
Ground Water pollution
Microbiological Pollution
DOMESTIC SEWAGE
It refers to waste water that is discarded from households. Also referred to as sanitary sewage, such water contains a wide variety of dissolved and suspended impurities.
AGRICULTURAL WASTE
The use of land for agriculture and the practices followed in cultivation greatly affect the quality of groundwater.
INDUSTRIAL WASTE
Waste water from manufacturing or chemical processes in industries contributes to water pollution.
water pollution is concentrated within a few sub sectors, mainly in the form of toxic wastes and organic pollutants.
There are various other causes like highway waste, chemical waste, radioactive waste, plastics, etc.
CONCLUSION
Life is ultimately about choices—and so is pollution. We can live with sewage-strewn beaches, dead rivers, and fish that are too poisonous to eat. Or we can work together to keep the environment clean so the plants, animals, and people who depend on it remain healthy. Clearly, the problems associated with water pollution have the capabilities to disrupt life on our planet to a great extent.
So its better to realise that we are doing and what we will pay for it
