INTRODUCTION
The basic & main purpose of every organization is to coordinate the effort of many people towards the achievements of a common objective. Every organization has got its own objective & plan to attain its common goal. A company can attain its common goal only through hard work & co-operation achievement of target & goals. An organization can survive for long unless it takes core of utilization of resources.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To study about the overall functioning of the organization.
To understand the decision making process in business organization.
To study about the resources of the company like man, machine, material etc.
To find out the relationship between superior & subordinates in the organization
To find out the environment existing within the organization.
To see various production facilities used in the day to day functioning.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
1. The study is limited to my experience and knowledge.
2. The confidential nature of data in the firm.
3. The time was major limiting factor for detailed study of all the aspects.
4. There are some errors in the information from few of the respondents.
5. Since some of the officials were busy it was difficult for a detailed discussion.
6. Latest data is not available.
INDUSTRY PROFILE
There are about 4500 units out of which 80% classified as small scale units & 10% each as medium and large

Industry directly employs about 50,000 people, indirectly about 1,50,000.
Since 1976, country iron foundry specializes in cast iron fire backs used in colonial times to protect the bricks and orator of fireplaces.
COMPANY PROFILE
Autokast is a leading foundry, which can cast a wide range of production in grey iron
It is a fully owned subsidiary of SILK with capital investment of Rs.3000 million and 320 dedicated workforce
It supplies essential components for engineering & manufacturing operations such as automobiles, agriculture, electric, iron, and steel production of casting
Substantial progress have been made in the past, but it facing problem like shortage,poor quality and price of input material like pig iron, steel scrap etc…
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
HR department is an important part of every organization
It performs a number of function like recruitment, selection, training,placement,job evaluation and merit rating.
Time office-:
Main function is attendance keeping & payroll preparation & maintain the leave record of the employees.
Punching system-:
Attendance & payroll are maintained. Fingerprint recognition is used for permanent employees.
Recruitment process-:
It is done by a corporate personnel & administration department. All the permanent employees are recruited during the starting stage of the company.
FINANCE DEPARTMENT
It is concerned with the maintenance of books, accounts & the financial statements. It keeps the transactions of sale of castings, purchase of caste materials, payment of salaries & wages, overtime payments, leave surrender & bonus. The company maintains a detailed account of its assets & liabilities and income & expenditure.
QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT
Quality checking is conducted at every stages of production.
It also checks the quality of product & result are informed to the marketing department.
Quality of the product is standard,it is accepted otherwise it is rejected.
Quality control involves the function of inspection
CONCLUSION
The organization study conducted at Autokast Limited Cherthala. Autokast Limited was started on with the aim of manufacturing all types of ferrous casting under the same roof and was setup in 1981 with the name integrated casting unit under the Steel Industries Kerala ltd(SILK). On may 21, 1984 incorporated as a separate subsidiary on SILK, and renamed as industrial casting unit as ISO 9002 company. The unit has an optimum capacity of 18,000 tons per annum and covers an area of 21,500 square meters. The plant comprises of two distinct production lines via, the conventional molding line and high pressure molding line. The company can manufacture ferrous casting of all grades and sizes ranging from 5 kg to 8,000 kg.
