[u]PRODUCTIVITY AND INNOVATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT[/u]
INTRODUCTION
The month of February is observed as Productivity Month every year in Industrial and Service organizations.
12 th February is observed as National Productivity Day.
National Productivity Council (NPC) has directed to observe February 12 – 18 as Productivity Week throughout the country.
For the past few years the month of February is observed as Productivity Month in Kerala.
The objective behind the celebration of Productivity Month is to popularize Productivity Movement in Kerala and to create the much needed awareness about it.
In 2013 the Productivity Month is celebrated with the theme -“PRODUCTIVITY AND INNOVATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”
This theme gives an awareness about the concepts of Productivity ,Innovation and Sustainable Development among the people, especially those in the Industrial and Service organizations.
Economic Growth and Overall Development are the two milestones to be set as Goals at micro as well as macro level.
IMPACT OF PRODUCTIVITY
The productivity figure of an organization immediately projects how an organization is being run.It indicates how efficiently and effectively the organization is converting the input into output. The impact of productivity can be felt in every functional areas of the organization.Productivity can be an indicator in any of the following circumstances-
1.It indicates the level of utilization of men,materials and machines.
2.It indicates the efficiency in the method of working.
3.it indicates whether there is motion economy in the organization,ie.effectiveness of layout or plan.
4.it indicates material handling efficiency.
5.it indicates appropriation of technology or production processes
6.it indicates the maintenance policy and the adequacy of the policy.
7.it indicates the working condition of workmen.
8.it also helps in fixing wages,,proper compensation and incentive scheme for the employees.
9.it indicates the level of quality control and quality assurance.
