This seminar report on “Wireless Network Security” attempts to provide a unified overview of method in regards to securing wireless networks. During the recent times, wireless LANs have come to occupy a significant area in the Local area network. Increasingly organizations are finding that wireless LANs are an indispensible part to traditional wired LANs, to satisfy requirements for mobility, relocation, ad-hoc networking, and coverage of locations difficult to wire. This document addresses Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) in detail and relates the various concerns regarding this. The report starts with the WLAN overview and its architecture in brief and gives detail of the Security Features and Problems of 802.11 Wireless LANs per the Standard.The report discusses inherent passive and active attacks prevailing in a wireless environment. The various risk mitigation countermeasures regarding Management, Operational and Technical aspects are discussed in great detail. The sole aim of the report is dedicated to maintain three essential elements like authentication, confidentiality and privacy completely intact. The report also discusses the hardware and software solutions in regards to wireless networking. The report proves that it is essential to remain abreast of the current and emerging trends in the technologies and in the security or insecurities of these technologies in our day to day life. The scope of this report lies in creating awareness to both people and agencies working in a completely wireless environment. Thus, the ultimate goal of the report is to present wireless LAN Security measures in regards to minimization of the risks involved with maintained authenticity, confidentially and privacy.
