Data Transfer and Data Manipulation
The computer provides an extensive system of instructions to give the user the flexibility to carry out the diverse computational task. Most computer instruction can be classified into three categories.
(1) Data transfer instruction
(2) Data manipulation instruction
(3) Program Control Instruction
The data transfer instruction transmits data from one location to another without changing the contents of the binary instruction. Data manipulation instructions are those that perform arithmetic logic and change operations. Program control instructions provide decision-making capabilities and change the path taken by the program when it is run on the computer.
The most common transfers are made between the registers of the memory and the processor, between the registers of the processor and the input or output, and between the own registers of the processor.
