Thermal Engineering is a study of energy transport particularly in the nanoscale structure to obtain knowledge and understanding of the scientific effects in the physical world that can or discoveries of engineering in industrial energy applications. Thermal engineering is heat transfer, thermodynamics, energy conversion and HVAC applications.
One or more of the following disciplines may be involved in solving a particular thermal engineering problem:
• Thermodynamics
• Fluid mechanics
• Heat transfer
• Transfer of mass
Thermal engineering can be practiced by mechanical engineers and chemical engineers.
A branch of knowledge often used in thermal engineering is that of thermofluids.
Applications
• Engineering: HVAC
• Cooling of computer chips
• Boiler design
• Solar heating
• In the design of combustion engines
• Thermal power plants
• Commercial refrigeration system
