Veri Chip is an injectable identification chip that can be inserted under the skin of a human to provide biometric verification. Veri Chip, manufactured by Applied Digital Solutions, is about the size of a grain of rice. It contains an identification number, an electromagnetic coil for transmitting data and a tuning capacitor; The components are enclosed within a container of silicon and glass that is compatible with human tissue. The chip, which uses RFID (wireless transmission) technology similar to the ID chips used by pet shelters to label pets, can be read by a patented scanner up to four feet away.
Originally, Veri Chip was intended to function in the same way as a medical alert bracelet, providing medical personnel with information that will save lives from a patient's history. It is now being used for security and automated data collection as well as for medical purposes.
