While most Indian industries are in the process of automation, it is a bitter fact that the Indian postal system continues to use manual intervention for sorting and processing mail. In this project we intend to propose an automated postal system that reduces the time of mail classification and discards human errors. the e-mail processor, which we have designed, scans an e-mail and interprets the imperative fields of the destination address, such as the pin code, the city name, the name of the location and the name of the street. The interpreted address is subsequently converted into a delivery point code, which is a 12-digit number. the delivery point code is printed to the mail in the form of a bar code that can be read by a low-cost machine. by converting the destination address into a bar code (which is printed in the mail), all future sorting processes can be achieved by means of a mechanical machine classifier, which can sort the mails according to the barcode present in they. the amplifier is composed of modules, namely, preprocessing unit, address block location unit, segmentation unit, character recognition unit, address analysis unit, delivery point code generation unit and Generation of bar codes. The address analyzer detects the location of the fields using a heuristic procedure. the recognition system is performed by representing the characters in the form of string codes and using their fourier descriptors for alphanumeric correspondence with the aid of a neural network. The delivery point code is generated by the PIN code (6 digits) and the street code. A database is used in this step to assign 5-digit codes for street names. The dpc is then bar coded and printed in the mail.
