The process plants are running continuously twenty-four hours a day. Any interruption of the power supply will result in a disruption of the process leading to severe losses of productivity and financial implications. In the event of failure of the TANGEDCO main supply, backup power must be entered online without a long time delay. To comply with this requirement, an automatic mains failure (MFA) arrangement is required to automatically switch from the public network supply to the DG source in the event of utility failure. A real-time AMF circuit was also studied for interlocks and various operating sequences. The details of the load connected at the university campus were collected and the size of the cables was analyzed from the perspective of the operation of the generator. Based on the loading details collected, the generator was properly dimensioned, the neutral arrangement was examined and adequate sizing was achieved to ensure reliable operation of the diesel generator for standby mode. The present continuous mode of the DG sets in conjunction with the TANGEDCO offer is compared to the operation mode of the HT conversion in progress. The Diesel consumption / TANGEDCO tariff is estimated based on the comparative analysis. The location of the proposed DG set is also optimized for better flexibility of operation to feed the campus loads without any interruption and also to ensure the efficient operation of the DG set.Complete DG's role is investigated taking due consideration of all the aspects to know AMF, economy, flexibility of operation etc.
