Butlers Chocolates is an Irish manufacturer of luxury chocolate and chocolate products. Founded by Mrs Bailey-Butler in 1932, it has been owned by the Sorensen family since 1959. Butlers Chocolates is an Irish chocolate producer and operates from a custom production facility in North Dublin. It produces a wide range of confectionery products, including chocolate assortments, truffles, fudge, caramel, chocolate bars and seasonal novelties. The company has also created a chain of Butlers Chocolate Cafes.
Butlers Chocolates was founded in 1932 by Mrs. Bailey-Butler. Based on Lad Lane in Dublin, Ms. Bailey-Butler developed a range of handmade chocolates. In 1959 the company was bought by Mr. Seamus Sorensen and in 1984 was born the brand Butlers Irish Chocolates. It was named in memory of Mrs. Marion Bailey-Butler.
Five years later, in 1989, Butlers Chocolates' first retail outlet opened its doors on Grafton Street in Dublin city center. Since then, outlets have opened all over Ireland. Butler have also expanded to the UK market with the opening of the company's first British coffee shop in Westfield London and its chocolates are now widely available at most major airports across the UK and at Waitrose stores.
In 1998 www.butlerschocolates.com was launched, which allowed them to reach customers from all over the world. And that same year, Butlers Chocolate Cafe opened on Wicklow Street in Dublin. To date fourteen Butlers Chocolate coffee shops have opened, including 2 franchises in New Zealand.
In 2003 Butlers Chocolates moved to Clonshaugh, Dublin 17 and in the same year was awarded the Bord Bia Brand Marketing Award at the Irish Food Industry Awards.
From 2006 to the present day Butlers has developed new products, launching its first range of organic chocolate, selection of dark chocolate, 200 g of chocolate cube, butlers chocolate iced coffee as well as take home iced among others. Also in collaboration, Butlers Chocolates launched a range of chocolates with the Irish fashion designer, Orla Kiely.
Butler Chocolates, now over 75 years old, is still based in Dublin and the original recipes of Mrs Bailey-Butler and chocolate making techniques have been handed down to the current generation.
The company was the proud recipient of the Frontier Award supplier of the year in 2009, for its excellence in supplying duty-free markets.
