Attempts have been made to eliminate the unstable behavior of self-induced reactors. For this, a system of multiple drivers was developed. The experiments were performed in 1-m-i.d. tank, with impeller parameters varied over a wide range. Recommendations are made for optimal reactor design.
The liquid side mass transfer coefficients (kLa) were measured on surface aerators and self-induced type reactors. The measurements were performed at 1.0 and 1.5 m / d. cylindrical and 8.2 × 8.2 square meters using the physical absorption of oxygen. The effect of liquid immersion was investigated in detail. In addition, the effects of tank diameter, the ratio of impeller diameter to tank diameter, and impeller clearance from the bottom of the tank were also studied. Three different impeller designs were investigated as surface aerators. Single and multiple impellers were used in the case of self-induced reactors. Energy consumption was varied in the range of 30-1000 W / m3. Correlations were developed for both types of reactors.
